What To Expect When You Schedule a Roof Inspection

What exactly happens during a roof inspection? What do I need to have with me? How long will it take? This may be your first time having a roof inspection. Whether you’re a first-time homeowner or you have storm damage you want assessed, you may be wondering these questions!

What happens during the appointment?

A roof inspection can take around an hour to complete. During this time a roofing professional will come out to your home to do a thorough inspection on the condition of your roof. The first area the roof inspector will want to look at is the inside area of your home. They will go into the attic to look at the interior roof decking. While in the attic,, they are checking for any leaks or water damage, and also the condition of your insulation.

Next, they will take it to the roof. The inspector will then inspect your roof from above. They are looking for loose or damaged shingles to further assess the current condition of your roof.

The last area the inspector will check is your home’s gutters. When they are checking the gutters they are making sure they are draining properly and are intact to the home. After the roof inspector has completed their inspection, they will be able to give you a report of how much damage you are dealing with and the next possible steps to move forward.

How often do I need an inspection?

Roof inspections should take place at least once a year. Setting up an annual inspection is a good way to ensure that you’re staying updated on your roof’s condition. This is a good way for you to be able to plan ahead for a roof replacement. Each year at your inspection, you will be informed how much life your roof has left and the repairs that could possibly prolong the lifespan of the roof.

If your home has been hit by a storm, it is also necessary to schedule an inspection. Storm damage can lead to leaks in your home if they are not treated. After a hail or wind storm, there are often loose or damaged shingles that can be treated to get your roof back in shape.
